English: The arms are the arms of the county of Kempen-Krefeld, granted on May 13, 1932, and continued by the new district of Viersen. The arms are a combination of the arms of the counties/duchies of Jülich and Geldern, as well as the state of Köln (cross). A large part of the district historically belonged to the county, later duchy of Geldern, represented by the golden lion. The black lion is the lion of Jülich, another duchy which a large part of the district belonged to. The arms resemble the arms of the former district Geldern and the former Dutch province of Gelderland. In 1815 the territory of Obergeldern was divided between the Netherlands and Prussia.
