СипаттамасыPerch Rock Lighthouse, New Brighton-by-Peter-Craine.jpg
Perch Rock Lighthouse, New Brighton. The banner on the top of the lighthouse read "Save our marine lake" - a reference to the proposed (and recently failed) re-development of New Brighton.
The siting of the lighthouse was rather unfortunate, as it was in direct line of fire from the cannons at Fort Perch Rock behind it. At the time those structures were built, Rock Channel (at right angles to the River Mersey) was a major shipping channel, and was at risk of invasion in Napoleonic times. An excellent book on this subject is "Fort Perch Rock and the Defence of the Mersey" by Ken McCarron.
