English: Top of the downhill runs, Plora Rig Mountain bike tourism has been a hugely successful industry in Tweeddale. In the 1980's there was much mindless hostility to the fat tyres, but in Southern Scotland some landowners encouraged this use of their forest land with a very positive outcome for the local economy.
Things have moved on, the sport has evolved and diversified, and this hill has been developed for adventurous downhill descents on specialist bikes by heavily armoured and fearless riders. The road has been improved to allow mechanical uplift (lorry and coach) of bikes not designed for easy climbing, they have evolved into a tool for going down hill over rough ground - fast! Plans are advanced for a chair lift to service Plora Rig's downhill routes. |
